Set Yourself Up For Success

I am not an expert. And really, I don’t even know the best way to do things. (Although sometimes I think I know!)

What I do know for sure is that I am trying my best. As a mother, as a partner, in my career. In all aspects of my life. I believe in living the example that I want to teach my children and so I’m always looking for ways to be more efficient and I’m always working to be the best version of me that I can be. I believe in learning and growing.

But I also know the importance of living in the moment and enjoying the little things.  So I make space to do nothing too.

And I keep my technology time in front of my kids to a minimum.

And I take "me time" often.

Except for recently, the "me time" stopped.

We got a new puppy, Pax, now a ten week old springer spaniel, and so I was dedicated to taking time off the gym to raise him and I put my membership on hold thinking this was the best way to raise a puppy.

But after two weeks I realized that I needed to put myself first again. I need my gym time. It wasn’t healthy for me mentally. I felt like I was giving my life and the things that mattered to me up for this little dog who could probably use a couple of hours in a crate so that he can learn to hold his pee and not pee everywhere around the house.

Exercise is so important for my body to be able to handle my days. I’m a 42 year old woman with two small children. That takes energy. My body needs to stay strong.  So I started back to the gym and it's the best thing.  I needed to do that for me.

And eating healthy foods. I don’t always eat healthy, in fact I’m still learning how to balance my treats and desserts so that I can have a little without having it all, but I know the importance of giving my body the foods that it needs to have the energy for my day. I’m a busy mom. And if you’re a parent you know what I mean. We’re never been so busy. Am I right?

So it’s about reflecting on what’s working and reevaluating what’s not working and making some changes if necessary. It's about being flexible and being honest with ourselves. And setting ourselves up for success so even through the phases where we’re not getting any sleep we feel like we can function.

It’s not about being an expert. It’s about being honest with ourselves and those around us. So that we can continue to do our best.

Hope this helps you to live a happier life!

Peace,
