It’s Enough
I spoke to a friend yesterday who is navigating covid like it’s a vacation. And I love that! Not because she’s not aware of the seriousness, but because she understands that it’s more important to focus on what we can do and see the beauty and positive opportunity in this space and time in our lives.
Now my friend doesn’t have young children at home, like I do. But can I be completely honest with you? That’s what we’re doing here too! We’re living in the moment and having fun as if we we’re still on March break.
And I’m not going to feel guilty for not following the school curriculum. It doesn’t work for us! My daughters are in jk and grade 1 and the best thing that I can be doing for them is remaining calm and doing what feels right for us.
And so we bake, we get out in nature, we paint and do crafts (sometimes 3 times a day!) We do yoga. We interpretive dance. We sing. We go for drives in the country! And we count out loud! And we’re constantly spelling things and making lists. We’ve even already made our letters to Santa!
And then we also work on being kind and working together as a team to create a peaceful home life. And we reach out to friends to keep those strong connections going. We work on patience.
That’s what feels right.
I came across this post on Facebook yesterday that might be helpful to you. I know it was refreshing to hear, personally.
It was posted by a teacher friend of mine…
Dear Parents,
Don’t stress about schoolwork. In September, I will get your children back on track. I am a teacher and that’s my superpower. What I can’t fix is social-emotional trauma that prevents the brain from learning. So right now, I just need you to share your calm, share your strength, and share your laugher with your children. No kids are ahead. No kids are behind. Your children are exactly where they need to be.
With love,
All the teachers on planet Earth.
Pretty powerful huh? I do hope that if you’re overwhelmed with all the school work, (and there’s a lot!) you do what works for you and your family. Don’t try to do it all. What you are doing is enough. I promise.
And if you’re trying to do it all and it’s causing arguments and stress, then take a break. Take a step back. Get back to a place of calm. And a place of fun. Because that’s what learning should be and that’s the best example you can give your children.

Wishing you more peace, balance, happiness, vibrant health and lasting love.
