Connection

During a conversation with a friend this weekend, I was reminded of chick chat sessions, a video series I did with two other entrepreneurs in 2018.  The topic we discussed is irrelevant, my friend and I, this is about how one video led to the next and then the topic of Kindness came up. (Video link below!)

As I watched the video I got goosebumps. I was reminded of a story I told about going to the grocery story where the clerk gave a negative response when I asked how her day was. And when I commented that it must be nice to talk with people all day, she told me that most people are so preoccupied with their phones at the checkout, that they aren’t paying attention to the service they’re being given. Fast forward to now. Hence the goosebumps.

What we’re experiencing right now, gives us an opportunity to change.

I believe that when life resumes back to some form of normalcy, this dismissiveness or disregard for others will evaporate.  At least that’s my hope. That connecting with people in a real and genuine way and at every opportunity should be the norm.

Every single person in our life, I believe, is here to teach us something. And this level of kindness should be automatic. At least I like to have hope in humanity that things will change for the better. Social distancing should teach us to value our connections. To live in the moment and be present for anyone we’re with. And that includes putting our phones down and engaging, regardless of who we’re speaking with.

Connection is powerful. No one person is better than the next. We are all people who deserve to be loved and treated with respect.

So if this has been you in the past, if you’ve been wrapped up in thought and missed an opportunity to learn from someone whose providing you with a service, let this be a time of reflection and a time to become a more engaged human. One who is mindful and aware of others around us at all times.

(Goosebumps at the 4 minute mark if you feel like checking out the story I was referring to! https://youtu.be/DoAVQmV7qEI )
