Our Bodies, Our Fuel
It’s been a couple of weeks with Mother’s Day and the long weekend...so it’s really nice to be back.
How are you? What’s changed for you since you last listened?
That’s a really good question. If you’re committed to living your best life, then things have to be changing for you to learn and grow. What’s that quote? "The only thing constant in life is change". It’s so true.
So for me, life is changing rapidly. With a 3 year old and a 5 year old - an elderly dog and a puppy, life is pretty out of control most times. And when it feels crazy, I always like to dial things back. And one of the things I focus on or re-evaluate is my health. Am I eating the right things for my body to support the early mornings and the long days?
I might not be able to control what’s happening around me, but I can control how I manage my days and my body.
And so, I just completed a 12 day D-Tox. If you’ve never done a cleanse before, let me share what I love about the one I did, The Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox. This was my 4th time completing it, although the last time was 7 years ago, pre kids. Since I finally stopped nursing in March after 5 years straight, I thought this was the perfect time to do it. I wanted to do something to feel more confident this summer and so I could feel more in control of the food I was putting into my body. I used it as a reset.
So I love that it’s always good for losing 8-10 pounds, which I’ll be honest was my main motivator this time. I’m tired of people asking me if I’m pregnant!!! It’s happened 3-4 times over the past 6 months and it’s NOT NICE. I’ve only gained 10 pounds since having my girls but I put weight on in my belly first. And while so many people reassure me that I don’t look pregnant, I’m really ready to do something to get my pre baby weight back. And I love that this inspires me to keep going.
So I also love that it brings mindfulness about my eating habits to the surface. You’d likely be surprised how many times you lick your fingers when you’re preparing food or the mindlessness snacking that you do through the day. At least if you’re a mother than this is likely true. I know I finally realized that just because my kids don’t eat it doesn’t mean I have to finish it. Being more mindful means that I’m asking myself often “am I really hungry?” And “do I really want this?”
I love the Wild Rose because the meal plan is really quite easy to follow. You essentially cut out the crap (no dairy, no sugar, no flour), you can still have coffee AND it allows popcorn and butter!! I oil pop mine in avocado oil on the stove and top it with butter from grass fed cows, which is a healthier option, and it’s so rich and delicious and this satiates my snacking tooth. I would love to say no to snacks in the evening, but we eat at 4pm and I work 4 nights a week...and I’m legitimately hungry most nights when I get home around 9:30/10pm. And this is always a perfect go to.
I love that it breaks bad habits. I love sweets. And for me, having something sweet means that I want more. And I’m really learning to find more balance, so that means being happy with just one or two and not the whole bag of cookies or the whole box of chocolates. Saying no to sweets completely was easy to do because I wanted to commit to the 12 days. My goal this time moving forward is to indulge once in a while and not every day. Sugar craves more sugar so it’s a tricky one. But I also know that I can do anything I set my mind to.
And, so can you.
So if you feel like you have a few extra pounds to lose, or you’d like to be more mindful about what you’re eating, or if you’d like more energy, this could be a really great option for you.
It feels good to make healthy choices. You deserve to feel good. And always remember, you can achieve whatever you believe.
