Checking In With Our Goals

Here we are, a week of January flown by already.

So how are you making out with your New Years resolution or your goal setting for the new year?

Are you still aligned?

Or are you way off?

The good news is, either choice is perfect and the universe still wants you to succeed!!

You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Right now. Your journey is happening exactly this way for a reason.

I truly believe that if we make a commitment and fall off the wagon, it wasn’t meant to be.

Right?!

Maybe a more realistic approach is needed, or maybe the goal was too ambitious, or maybe you had a moment of weakness and you just need to try again.

I had a soul session with a client the other day and she told me all of the things that she’s doing in January to move her life forward. There was a list of 4 new things that she has introduced for the month, and while I truly wanted to support her, I also needed to tell her not to be too hard on herself if she found that it wasn’t actually sustainable. In order for us to stick to our goals, we need to realistically be able to fit them into our lives. We’re creatures of habit and sometimes bad habits are harder to break than others and new habits don't fit into our lives as easily as we hoped.

Trust me. I also know that we can easily make excuses for our behaviour. To justify to ourselves and to others why we’re doing this, or not doing that. Excuses can stop us from living our best life.

I almost fell victim yesterday. My oldest daughter Reese turns 6 in just a couple days and we had a skating party to celebrate. Friends and family came over for cake and coffee to follow. I easily could have made an excuse (it’s my daughter’s birthday!!). But I made my January commitment of no sugar and no late night TV and I wanted to keep that commitment to myself. I can already feel and see the difference in my life. I don’t feel bloated and I feel like I’m making choices to honour my body. It feels really good. I held on to that feeling and it helped me to stay strong and to say no. I didn't even lick my fingers when I cut the cake!

Now I did make a bit of an exception on Friday and Saturday night to watch TV in the evening, but I decided that that was okay! I’ve realized that I don’t want to be working on projects all the time. I guess I learned this balance from Deryk long ago and I missed it. Deryk and I snuggle and watch a show and it’s cozy and we enjoy that time together. But what’s different is that I no longer wait until I’m exhausted and ready for bed before I actually go upstairs. Now I go up to bed earlier and read for a bit before putting on my meditation.

So in a way I had to be more realistic with myself about what I wanted and needed with my evenings.

And so I’m just saying to you, make good decisions that work for you. I wish you the strength to stick with them and the ability to trust your judgment and go easy on yourself if something needs to change. You truly can do anything and everything…just don’t try to do it all in a day.

Wishing you more peace, balance, happiness, vibrant health and lasting love.
