Tell Your Story

I connected with a girlfriend on Friday evening and after a ‘really good for the soul’ kind of chat, she insisted I needed to start journaling. And truthfully I have before, but I’m not currently in the practice of doing so.

However, after our talk I promised I would.

She told me, “San, that story you just told me needs to be written! Your children should know how happy you are!”  It made me well up with tears.  And it made me realize that she’s right. The idea of documenting the beautiful life I’ve been able to co-create, is such a gift to be able to give to my children one day.

The story that inspired my commitment to begin journaling is this....

I recently started working on a farm, and I love it. On Fridays we prepare fresh rolls for the farmers market and my boss grills the marinated tofu on the porch in front of our little cottage kitchen in the forest. The smell is so delightful and the atmosphere fills my heart and soul. To be a part of a healthy eating journey for people is incredible. It’s a lifestyle I live by and a lifestyle I love to inspire for others. On this particular Friday, we watched a young coyote outside the window. He quickly saw us and scampered away, but that one minute...made my whole day. I told that to my boss. And he agreed.  I am so grateful to be surrounded by nature.

My friend was so grateful to hear my story, knowing that the past year for me has been crazy to say the least, but also to know that there are others who are finding gratitude for such simple life pleasures.  And so she told me a story where she felt appreciation for the rocks she was standing on earlier. They supported her garden of strawberries and she and her husband worked hard to place them just so. She said that she wishes more people could see the beauty in this world and I assured her that the more we shared our gratitude, the more people will see.

Life is full of simple pleasures when we take the time to see them.  And going one step further and writing about our experiences in a journal give us an opportunity to dive deeper into our thoughts, our inner needs and desires. This practice is so good for us!  Physically, mentally and emotionally we can benefit as we reduce stress, boost our mood and keep our brains sharp! All that in addition to leaving a legacy? It’s a no brainer!

So I am currently spending time online shopping at indigo and there are so many pretty journals to pick from!  But I’ll persevere and keep my commitment to my friend and to myself :)

Wish me luck!
